Cetacean Marine operates and maintains the 180’ R/V Lake Guardian and the 36’ R/V Mudpuppy II under a long term federal contract let by the US Environmental Protection Agency. These vessels monitor the quality of the water and marine biological habitat in the Great Lakes Basin. Lake Guardian is powered by twin Cummins diesels driving conventional propellers in Kort Nozzles. The vessel has a crew of 14 Cetacean mariners.
Cetacean Marine was selected by AKER Philly Shipyard and NASSCO Shipbuilding Corp. to perform the builders sea and acceptance trials on the Matson “Aloha” Class of 3,600 TEU container ships. These are the largest container vessels ever built in a US shipyard. The successful trials of second vessel, the M/V Kaimana Hila, were completed in March of 2019. This was the 30th ship built by Philly Shipyard and the 12th ship trialed by Cetacean Marine Services Inc. Cetacean has performed 9 sea trials for NASSCO from 2020-2023 on commercial (Matcon) and USN/USNS vessels.
